Self Discipline
At the beginning of September 2024 I created a BLOG post titled Close to the Edge….
My mood was very low and I knew that change was needed – so I created a plan, documented it in the BLOG post and started step by step to improve my mood and to improve my concentration.
Writing the post and creating the plan was comparatively easy – in fact most things are when you are in the right frame of mind – what matters is what a person does when the odds are against them.
Last week I had a toothache. I went to the dentist and she removed a big tooth. It hurt before and it hurt afterwards.
Yesterday evening I broke another tooth. I went to my car to go and buy some pain killers but my tyre was flat. By the time I fixed the tyre it was too late to buy pain killers.
I was in pain but I had an important job that needed to be done – I needed to create and upload a video for our YouTube Channel @bramblecottageuk.
Compilation of a video takes 1-2 hours and creating an uploadable file takes about 2 hours. I finally started the upload at 10:30 pm and went to bed.
3 hours later I pushed myself to wake up, go downstairs and start the upload.
At 2:15 am I got back into bed but couldn’t sleep. My tooth was hurting and my mind was whirring.
Finally I got out of bed at 7:00 am and checked the uploaded video – I immediately found a mistake so a new upload was necessary. Upload 2 started at 8:00 am.
At 3:00 pm my wife noticed another mistake so I had to fix that and upload again.
It would have been easy to say “forget it – i’ll do it tomorrow”, but easy isn’t always right.
The upload is ongoing as I write this post.
My reward for self discipline came to me when I checked my YouTube analytics page….
For the first time since publishing our first video on 3rd October 2023 we have received money from YouTube – £0,30 to be precise
In itself £0,30 is insignificant, but it is also a monumental sum. It demonstrates that by having the self discipline to post a video at the same time every Friday night for 52 weeks you eventually get rewarded.
In today’s world we have become used to immediate gratification and many of us now lack the discipline to keep going if immediate results aren’t apparent.
I do not know how the financial future of our YouTube looks, but I am convinced that with the self discipline to post at least once a week the future will be positive
Best wishes,
Richard
