Stickability
Meaning: According to the Oxford English dictionary…Stickability is a person’s ability to persevere with something; staying power….”the secret of success is stickability”
In November 2022 I was given 3-6 months to live – I was diagnosed with cancer.
After 4 biopsies the oncologist concluded that the type of cancer I had was Hodgkin’s Lymphoma a blood cancer with a comparatively high 5 year survival rate.
These were very rough times!
I was desperate. If I died, my wife would only have a small pension to live on, so in an act of blind desperation my wife and I created a YouTube Channel @bramblecottageuk.
We had no experience of social media, no experience of VLOGing and no experience of publishing on YouTube.
But we started creating and posting content. We hoped that we would make a success of it but neither of us really believed that anyone would be interested in us and our story….
We were hoping that one of our videos would “go viral” (whatever that meant) and make us rich…As of today that hasn’t happened.
What has happened is that we have posted consistently on average more than 1 video per week and our channel has slowly grown.
It has taken many hours of effort and there have been quite a few failures along the way, but finally after almost one year we have started to earn money. Our first video was posted on 3rd October 2023 and on 27th September 2024 YouTube informed us (for the very first time) that our estimated revenue was £0,30.
We were ecstatic! This small sum made all of those hours of effort worth it.
Over the last few days we have watched the Estimated revenue grow and this morning it stands at £3,56
Stickability is what brought us to this point. So many people around us said..”it’s impossible to make money on YouTube these days! Or “You? YouTubers…You cannot be serious – no chance!”
Well, we’ve made it!
Yesterday I said to Gill (my wife) you’ll need an accountant….she laughed at me and after she stopped laughing she said I was crazy. An accountant for £3,56…you cannot be serious.
I was hurt and frustrated so I changed the subject.
After a good night’s sleep we talked again this morning and I asked her “what’s stopping us from becoming millionaires from YouTube revenue?” We have proven that we can make £3,56, so what’s stopping us from making £35,60 or £356,00 or £356000?…she couldn’t answer.
I told her that in my opinion the only thing that limits her is her imagination.
As of today we have ~ 1000 subscribers (25% UK, 14% USA, 4% Canada) Mostly female and mostly 55 or older.
- Within the UK there are > 11 million females over the age of 55
- Within the USA there are > 50 million females over the age of 55
- Within Canada there are > 6 million females over the age of 55
So our target audience is 67000000 (67 million)
This means that if we continue doing what we are doing there is absolutely nothing stopping us from growing.
There is no trick. There is no quick and dirty path to get there…it’s “just” a case of stickability.
I’m already Rich by name and rich by nature (I’m alive…and very thankful!) so I am without doubt very lucky. Whilst I have no craving to become super rich I certainly wouldn’t say no to being mortgage free and having a buffer of cash in the bank.
I have worked all my life (from the age of 16) but am still shackled with mortgage debt.
By applying stickability over the next 2-3 years I can easily imagine that the mortgage can be paid in full and that we can still have a little extra in the bank for some fun adventures.
If we can do it…so can you. The only thing stopping you is YOU!
Best wishes,
Richard
